Whether your dad is near or far this Father’s Day, celebrate him with these last-minute ideas, and show him he’s still one of your favorite people on the planet.

“To celebrate Father’s Day amidst the COVID-19 crisis, be creative, and let your love contagiously spread to his heart,” says Julie Blais Comeau, chief etiquette officer at etiquettejulie.com. “Just be sure to wash your hands, stay 6 feet apart, and wear a mask, to keep your father safe and healthy.”

Here’s the news: Dad’s special day doesn’t need to be an elaborate production to be enjoyable. Here are a few activities you can throw together at the drop of a hat.

1. Virtually tour a national park

It was your dad who planted the seed for your love of the outdoors, with all your trips to see the redwoods, lakes, and rivers. Right?

And luckily for Papa Bear, the National Parks Service is offering a wide range of virtual park experiences. Enjoy them together!

2. Livestream a concert

Several musicians, like Bon Jovi and Garth Brooks, have been livestreaming their concerts. Put Dad’s favorite band on the TV and watch him rock out.

Dig deep into your father’s music collection. He’ll appreciate it.

It’s a thoughtful way to “show Dad you care on this special day,” says Myka Meier, etiquette expert and founder of Beaumont Etiquette.

3. Go for a stroll down memory lane

Nothing warms a parent’s heart like watching old videos of their kids when they were growing up. Even better, get the videos digitized, so the entire family can view them on their devices.

“Anything that shows thought and gratitude for Dad on Father’s Day is a great gift, but some of the best are those that have a sentimental touch,” says Meier.

“Framing an old photo, or putting together a collage of pictures or videos to make him smile will be sure to do the trick.”

4. Plant a family garden

If anything, quarantining at home (and going to the grocery store as little as possible) probably made you realize that growing your own fruits and vegetables is a great idea.

Help him construct an area for his new garden, and then hit up your local nursery for a few tomato, pepper, and herb plants to get him started.

5. Cook or bake something together

Always wanted to tackle replicating grandma’s beloved lasagna? Grab your apron and get cooking with Dad. Alternatively, try a new recipe.

How about Middle Eastern? Hummus anyone?

If you’re not together on Father’s Day, “send him an invitation for a virtual coffee, lunch, or happy hour to still spend time together,” says Meier.

6. Play casino

Can’t make it to Vegas? It’s time to start shuffling those cards and give Dad the casino gaming experience. If he’s partial to poker, host a mini-tournament at home, or try out a new game you’ve never played before.

7. Watch a movie together

Even if you and your father are far apart right now, the two of you can still have hours of fun watching movies and TV shows together through the Netflix Party app or Metastream. You can sync up streaming content to watch it together.

“This year is the time to be creative, with an empathetic perspective,” says Blais Comeau.

8. Go on a bike ride

There’s a good chance that Dad was the one who taught you how to ride a bike, so if you two are in the same ZIP code, show him you upgraded from the colorful kid bike he remembers and take a ride around the park.

“Sometimes, dads want a day of TV and a laid-back family dinner, and sometimes they want a day outdoors with their family,” says Maralee McKee, founder of Manners Mentor.

If your father is in the second camp, he’s sure to appreciate a few hours biking in the sun.
