If you’re lucky enough to have an outdoor space to retreat to these days, we’re guessing you’re spending a lot of time in it. But if you’re anything like us, all that outdoor decor and furniture are looking a little worse for the wear after the dreary winter season.

Being the decor fiends we are, we spent this past week (as we always do) scouring Instagram for the hottest outdoor decor trends—and what we found is sure to up the dreamy summer vibes of your favorite outdoor hangout, no matter how big or small. Here are five trending outdoor decor looks to help you ring in those first warm days of summer.

1. Comfy patio couch

With all the time you’ve been spending on your living room couch, why not have a designated outdoor one, too? Outdoor sofas aren’t just a great spot to work from home on sunny afternoons, they’ll also lend some of that interior coziness to your exterior space (like we see in this photo from @cochranrealestatepv).

“Bringing the indoors out is a huge trend that’s only getting stronger,” says Tina Huffman, landscape designer and blogger for Greenhouse Studio. “People want to create an outdoor room, and seating is a key foundation piece to any comfortable outdoor space. Try a small sofa with a stain-resistant, outdoor fabric—they do an outstanding job of keeping clean and holding up while looking and feeling beautiful.”

2. Cozy chiminea

You don’t need to build a whole fireplace to get some of those cozy summer night vibes going. All you really need is one of these chimineas like the one featured by @ourhomebythebridge.

“Chimineas are great because they produce a serious amount of heat in a small, contained package—making them perfect for small patios,” Huffman says. “No gas piping or propane tanks required, and you can even roast marshmallows in them!”

3. Staycation macrame hammock

You can never have too many seating options in your outdoor nook. This macrame hammock originally posted by @ravenhawkdesigns is the perfect way to add a bit of whimsy to just about any outdoor space—even a small patio.

“People are stressed out, and a hammock evokes the fantasy of lying stretched out between a couple of coconut palms,” Huffman says. “Macrame hammocks tap into the popular boho design vibe that’s a new version of the 1970s macrame trend, and work well with natural decor both indoors and out.”

4. Romantic eyelet umbrella

Add some necessary shade with one of these romantic eyelet umbrellas featured by @shannonsmithevents.

“Not all of us are fortunate enough to have a big, old-growth tree in our backyard,” says Colin Haentjens, designer for The Knobs Company. “Free-standing umbrellas give you flexibility of location, and the eyelet style adds a layer of detail that creates a nice display.”

We got our swings hung up! I’ve loved swings ever since I was a little girl I would go to the park and by want to leave them. I still to this day love to swing with my kids at the park. I’m so excited and thankful I can swing here now on my front porch. . This post from @home_on_providence_hill is giving us all those nostalgic feels of being a kid, and making us reconsider our boring patio furniture.

“Swing seats evoke romantic evenings on a wide, wraparound veranda sipping a mint julep,” says Huffman. “They’re a refreshing, wholesome antidote to the overly tech and stressful world we inhabit right now.”
