This Week on Instagram: 5 Nostalgic Kids Room Trends You’ll Love as Much as They Will

Don’t you ever wish you could just go back to being a kid? Us too. That’s why we decided to take our weekly Instagram series on trending decor and do a special edition featuring the best ideas for kids rooms. While we can’t make your boss give you outdoor recess or bring back your favorite Lego set, we can tell you that, kid or not, you’re going to love this week’s five nostalgic trends.

So whether you have a full house of kiddos or you’re just in need of some serious #nurseryinspo for one on the way, this week’s top kids room trends are sure to give you some fresh ideas, and make you wish your parents had thought of them first!

1. Whimsical wallpaper

Picture your favorite bedtime story painted on the walls in adorable pastels, and that’s pretty much what the experts at @littlehandswallpaper pulled off with this whimsical accent wall.

Besides the cute elephant and panda bear, “what makes this design work so much is that it acts as an accent wall and adds a pop of color to a very neutral room,” says Jessica Davis, principal interior designer and owner of JL Design Nashville. “This is ideal for children’s rooms because as they age and interests change, parents can focus on changing just one wall.”

2. A playful option for quiet time

You’re never too young to enjoy a hammock. And while we don’t recommend putting this thing up in the same week you start giving kids chores, a dreamy hammock like this one featured by @decor_for_kids makes a lovely addition to any kid’s room.

“It’s important for kids to have an area where they can escape and have some downtime,” says designer Stephanie Purcell. “I love the idea of this hammock because it is a fun way to include nap or quiet time.”

3. Magical canopy

The only thing we love as much as a hammock is a bed canopy. This tot-size version reposted by @hunkerhome (originally from @christine_simplybloom) is as magical as they come.

“Canopies have been a huge hit for hanging over a kid’s bed,” says designer Sherri Monte of Elegant Simplicity. “They add the perfect punch of personality and really accentuate a magical space to go to sleep in. When you’re a parent trying to convince your child that it’s officially time for bed, having a cool and dreamy place to lay your head can help a lot!”

Wall art has a way of making a room come together, but these vibrant and adorable prints from @prettyinprintart will make any room almost as cute as your kid (hey, we said almost).

“Fun, vibrant prints add a lot of character and can be really great when considering how to include your child’s own interests into their room,” says Purcell. “Do they like dinosaurs? Ballerinas? Spaceships? You can literally find a print for anything, so it is an easy way to personalize a blank wall.”

5. Dream house meets playhouse

It might be for the kids, but you’ll probably wish you could play in this mini modern farmhouse, too. This amazing indoor dream house from @le_monde_de_jaia, reposted by @planetcutethings, will give you all the nostalgic feels.

”Having a kid’s playhouse for a bed may be one of the funnest ideas I have seen yet,” says Purcell. “No longer are clubhouses just for the backyard. Why not bring the fun inside? This is an especially great idea if you live somewhere with a lot of bad weather.”
