1. Light it up!
Lighting is key in transforming any room in your home from somber to soothing. So think ornate chandeliers and flush mounts! You can also add other lighting fixtures like floor lamps, side table lamps, decorative lanterns, and string lights wherever you see fit. Now, you may be raising your eyebrow thinking "These things aren't cheap!". They are quite expensive, yes, if you don't take advantage of discounts. So go to the antique or thrift store and scour the internet to find the best deals before you go shopping.
2. Paint it new.
Give your home an entirely new look with the help of a can of paint and a paintbrush. Pick a color that matches your existing furniture and that which creates an energetic vibe. For example, I've picked purple for the bedroom me and my daughter share and pink for my mother's. We've stuck with white for the living room (although I was really pumped to have it repainted with my favorite color, yellow!
3. Add window dressings.
Get your windows noticed by adding ready-made draperies, Roman shades, roller shades, or valances. If you're into DIY, start a window treatment project you feel will tweak the décor of your personal space. Replace your curtain rod with a new one before hanging your new window dressing so everything looks new and fresh to the eye.
4. Accessorize.
Not just plain accessories but rather attention-grabbing pieces that can add character in the room without making it look confusing and cluttered. Think picture frames (or any framed art), bright throw pillows, exquisite vases, and interesting coasters. You can also pick up seasonal accents for your home by strolling in the nearest park or beach. Think colorful pebbles, interesting shells, pinecones, and more!
5. Replace the old with the new.
This applies to the one of the most frequented areas of the home: the bathroom. Transform this space from blah to wow by picking up a new bathroom shower curtain and replacing the curtain hooks. You can also add a floating glass shelf where you can arrange your toiletries.
Transforming the look of your abode doesn't have to be expensive. If you don't have the budget and the luxury of time to restyle your entire home, you can always focus on giving the high-traffic rooms a makeover, first. So focus on the kitchen, bathroom, and living room first. You can target the remaining areas when you have the time and funds. Once you see the beautiful result of your hard work, your family members will appreciate your creativity and they'll always look forward to going home moving forward.
