Sometimes, the avocado selection at the grocery story is a little hard to sort through -- literally. When too-firm avocados seem to be your only option and you don't feel like waiting several days for those beauties to ripen, try the simple trick explained by "Home Made Simple" chef Martita Jara in the above video.
Once at home, place the unripe avocado in a brown paper bag and add in a piece of fruit, such as an apple or banana. Then, close up the bag.
"That apple's going to release some gases to help the avocado ripen," Martita says. "By tomorrow, [you'll] have perfect ripe avocados."
Crisis averted.
