7 Surprising Luxury Items for the Home You Can Buy at Big-Box Stores

Ever think of buying a Rolex at Costco? Or a set of crystal wine glasses at Target? Lots of coveted brands, once reserved for fancier department stores or specialty shops, can now be found at big-box stores and online retailers.

“More and more you can find these luxury items at mainstream stores and warehouse clubs, and in many cases these expensive designer names are creating special collaborations to roll out exclusive products at more affordable prices,” says Andrea Woroch, a consumer finance expert. “With this strategy, high-end brands can reach a bigger audience and sell in larger volume to recoup some of their costs.”

Ultimately, experts say these big-box stores are aiming to bring customers back again and again, throughout their lives.

“If these places become one-stop shops for consumers, they can appeal to them whatever their budget or life stage. A college student looking for affordable furniture might come back several years later to register for china and fancy home goods when she’s ready to get married,” says Lisa Davis, shopping expert at Offers.com.

And let’s face it: Some pricey items for the home—especially those that will get plenty of use (we’re looking at you, Dyson vacuum)—are just worth investing in. Get ready to pull out your plastic for these seven luxe items you can find for sale in big-box stores.

1. Riedel wine glasses at Target

Crystal-clear glass will showcase your favorite cabernet.

Target

Mason jars have a sweet rustic charm, but for nice dinners and celebrations, thin-lipped, delicately stemmed Riedel glassware ($30 for two, Target) is the way to go. And the price is nice, too, which means you can pick up a couple of pairs when you’re out for detergent and paper towels .

2. Dyson vacuum at Bed, Bath & Beyond

Choose this wand vacuum to keep your floors clean.

Bed Bath & Beyond

Dyson is a coveted brand thanks to its products’ durability, efficiency, and beautiful design. It’s available at most big-box stores, including Walmart, Costco, and Kohl’s.

How fun is this fuchsia version of the cord-free stick vacuum ($300, Bed Bath & Beyond)? This lightweight sucker works hard for up to 30 minutes on carpet, tile, and hardwood surfaces.

3. All-Clad kitchenware at Sears

Quality pans make for more delicious meals.

Sears

Ever try to fry an egg in a pan with a crappy coating? Yup, half of your breakfast ends up stuck on the metal. But All-Clad cookware will do right by you. They’ve been lauded by both professional chefs and amateur cooks for the past 50 years for their superior craftsmanship.

Not only are these pans ($150, Sears) great-looking, but the all-over bonded metal construction also ensures even heat distribution, which translates into better cooking and tastier results.

4. Studio McGee decor at Target

Try this chic lighting brand for less at a big-box store.

Target

With a successful interior design business, a high-end furniture line, and a show on Netflix, Studio McGee is a tastemaker in the world of home decor. But its recent Target collection filled with furniture, lighting, and wall art brought its modern-rustic point of view to a more budget-friendly place.

“Studio McGee’s collection for Target is a good example of a high-end home design collaboration that you can find at mainstream stores,” says Woroch.

One of our favorite pieces is a lamp made from layered resin ($55, Target), which will add texture and style to any room at a very fair price.

5. Le Creuset Dutch oven at Walmart

It’s safe for the oven, freezer, and dishwasher.

Walmart

Head to Walmart for excellent prices on iconic Le Creuset products. At nearly 100 years old, this French brand is revered by chefs and home cooks the world over because the enameled cast iron will last a lifetime—and it looks amazing on your stovetop.

Wide handles and an easy-to-clean interior means you’ll reach for this Dutch oven ($200, Walmart) for every soup, stew, and ragu you’re planning on cooking up this winter.

6. Smeg appliances on Amazon

Quality parts and Italian flair = a winning combo

Amazon

Davis recommends Smeg appliances from Amazon if you’re looking to upgrade your kitchen. With an offering of colorful toasters, coffee makers, and tea kettles ($220, Amazon), Smeg is a must-have if you’re hoping to channel a happy, retro vibe in your home.

7. Vitamix blender at Costco

You, too, can juice like Oprah and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Costco

Don’t you want to make smoothies and shakes just like the A-listers do? You can if you shop Costco for a chic and powerful Vitamix ($400, Costco). And this particular pick is even more affordable since it comes as a bundled set, says Woroch.

Not only do you get the 10-speed blender with a seven-year warranty, but the deal also includes a cookbook and two 20-ounce containers with lids to hold your kale-acai-blueberry smoothie.
