5 Decor Ideas From Instagram That'll Make Your Kitchen Look Instantly Expensive

We’d place bets on the fact that your kitchen has seen an awful lot of traffic these past couple of months. Between the roasting turkeys, hot-out-of-the-oven holiday cookies, and a constant stream of guests in and out of the house, it’s probably fair to say the heart of your home is looking a little worse for the wear.

That’s why we turned to Instagram, as we do every week, for a little inspiration to freshen things up. And guess what? The decor trending right now just happens to bring that new car-smell vibe back into your kitchen—with rich materials that amp up the elegance.

We’re not here to make you simply ogle other people’s designs, of course. In addition to rounding up the most popular kitchen posts on Instagram, we have tips on how you can steal these luxurious looks for yourself.

1. Gold hardware

Ditch the drab and cool tones of your kitchen hardware for something lustrous and warm, like these gold-tinted brass knobs featured by @cuttingedgehomes.

“Brass hardware is a great way to make your kitchen cabinets sing, especially when set against a darker cabinet,” says Sandra Moreno, designer and founder of Studio No. 8.

“The gold tones are modern but timeless and can be matched with just about any style cabinet, and changing the cabinet pulls is a great way to quickly update your kitchen,” she adds.

2. Wood countertops

We’ve almost made it through the first week of normality so I think we deserve a treat, I’d like mine to be a glass of wine but as we’re on dry January over here (regretting that decision!!) More and more designers, it seems, are ditching quartz and granite countertops altogether, and swapping them out for cozy wood like we see from @the_indigo_house.

“Wooden countertops work well as an effective visual contrast to modern smooth cabinetry,” says Stephanie James, partner at Allen and James Designs. “Especially with the variety in deep colorations available in cabinetry, the contrast of wood offers multilayering and visually textural design elements.”

3. Marble backsplash

Marble is getting used in some unexpected ways, as we can see from this backsplash-meets-shelf by @jakealexanderarnold.

“Marble backsplashes instantly elevate any kitchen,” Moreno says. “It can work with sleek, modern kitchens or more traditional ones. Choose darker veining or lighter depending on the look and feel you are going for.”

Don’t have a massive budget for marble? Moreno often turns to quartz.

“It’s the closest thing to marble that I’ve seen on the market, and is durable, stain-resistant, and cost-effective,” she says.

4. Copper-accent lighting

Nothing makes a kitchen glow quite like an oversize copper pendant. Just look at this one featured by @odysseyofdesign and tell us you don’t have serious design envy!

“Oversized copper lighting adds huge visual impact to a kitchen,” says Laurie DiGiacomo of Laurie DiGiacomo Interiors. “It’s an opportunity to add a sculptural decor piece to the space.”

Plus, she adds, “left untreated, copper develops a beautiful patina over time. This is definitely a metal that is on the up trend right now.”

5. Leather bar stools

Leather isn’t just for designer handbags and shoes. It also makes an amazing statement piece in kitchen seating, as we can see from the stunning bar stools in this post from @firefinish_interiors.

“Leather bar stools add warmth to a kitchen, and it’s a durable material for those who use them more than their dining chairs,” Moreno says.

“They’re also a little softer to sit on than wood, acrylic, or metallic stools. Over time, they wear well and the leather develops a character of their own,” she adds.
