5 Vintage-Inspired Kitchen Looks That Are Heating Up Instagram This Week

What goes around comes around, and we’re not just talking about karma (or flu season). As we do every week, we scoured through hundreds of decor posts on Instagram to uncover the top design trends—this week with a focus on the kitchen. And what we found took us on a nice little walk down memory lane.

Glamorous lighting and functional spaces—all with a flair for the retro chic of former decades—were the most popular posts on IG this week. We’re in love with the nostalgia of it all, and we think you will be, too.

If so, you’re in luck: Not only are we offering a peek at these gorgeous designs, but we’ve scouted the items you can buy to get the look yourself. So go ahead and get lost in this blast from the past!

Early 1900s open island table

This quaint open island table by @danmazzarini is so reminiscent of “Downton Abbey” that you almost expect to see Mrs. Patmore rolling out the dough for a steak-and-kidney pie.

“The open island is gaining popularity as we shift away from having the perfectly tidy kitchen, where everything is off the counter and hidden away,” says Hagop Imasdounian, co-founder of the kitchen design studio Apico Kitchens. “In my opinion, it adds two qualities to a room: The first is some character, and the second is an element of airiness.”

1920s black and gold pendant

If these lights make you think of “The Great Gatsby,” you’re not alone. Paired with the ultramodern and sleek accents seen in this post by @collective.studio_, this kitchen offers you the ultimate vintage glam decor.

“Go bold and dramatic in the kitchen, with matte black and gold accents,” says decor blogger Steven Wood of Swankyden. “Adding black to any room in the home will bring a sense of sophistication and luxury—just be careful not to overdo it. You can end up closing up a room by making it too dark.”

1930s glass-top barstools

Anyone else been vibing on Hollywood Regency style lately? Seems @carcabaroad has, from the look of these fab and chic glass-top bar stools.

“Add some unique interest to a space by throwing in a surprising element,” Wood says. “Glass-top stools with gold accents will be more commonly found in midcentury decor, but work well here in contrast with the neutral colors of the kitchen.”

1940s/’50s replica appliances

If you love retro-chic kitchens as much as we do, then you’re going to fall hard for these pastel pink appliances featured in the home of @berlinhomelove.

“I love the art deco designs of the 1930s and ’40s,” says designer Pablo Solomon of Austin, TX. “It’s great that Fiesta Ware is being reproduced, but I never dreamed that the wonderful refrigerators, toasters, space heaters, etc. would be reproduced. The little kitchen reminds me of my home as a child.”

1950s aqua accents

This famous aqua blue of the 1950s is back, as we can see from this gorgeous kitchen by @devolkitchens.

“Did you know blue is the favorite color of more people than anything else?” Wood asks. “Kitchens are the heart of the home and always seem to be the spot when having guests over, so having a popular color just adds to its reputation of happiness.”
