Want to win a smart house?

This week, HGTV announced its 2021 Smart Home Sweepstakes, inviting Americans to enter for a chance to win a newly built house in Naples, FL. The contest goes through June 11, so there’s plenty of time to enter. (You can toss your name in the hat twice a day if you really want to stack the deck.)

The winner (chosen randomly from entries) will receive not just a gorgeous house, but also a Mercedes-Benz Cabriolet and $100,000 from LendingTree—an impressive haul totaling over $1.1 million.

While the new wheels and cash are certainly sweet, the house is clearly the main attraction. Located on a private cul-de-sac next to a golf course and about 25 minutes from the beach, this three-bedroom, three-bath home is packed with the latest smart home technology, which is on full display in an HGTV half-hour special (streaming now).

Curious about what you could win? We watched the show to get a gander, virtually tagging along as the home’s designer, Tiffany Brooks, as well as Ty Pennington and other experts pointed out the high-tech highlights. Whether they inspire you to enter the sweepstakes or add these features to your own home, way we’d say that’s a win!

1. A kitchen island that charges your gadgets

The kitchen is lovely, with a geometric backsplash and two-tone cabinets. However, the best feature has to be the island countertop.

Tech expert Carmen Johnson explains how this counter works: “It’s a special countertop, a wireless charging station. Put your phone on there, any device, and it charges up, no wires. Super simple and easy.”

Imagine never having to worry about low phone batteries or cumbersome laptop cords ever again!

2. A hydroponic garden in the pantry

In the pantry, technology and nature meet with a hydroponic garden. The pot grows herbs and veggies in the most efficient, tech-savvy way.

“You don’t have to worry about watering it, because all of the water is in the unit and it makes it super simple and easy,” Johnson says.

She even points out that this hydroponic garden has its own app, so the homeowner can track how the plants are doing.

3. A smart sunroof in the bedroom

The main bedroom is decked out with seriously plush furnishings, but the most important part of the room has to be the skylights. They bring in sunlight and some extra air, and they look great! Plus, these smart skylights know when they’re not wanted.

“These skylights, when it starts raining outside, they automatically close,” Brooks says.

4. Smart mirrors in the bathroom

While the main bedroom looks great, the beautiful en suite bathroom also makes an impression with its green tile floor and white countertop. But the real showstopper is the smart mirrors, which share important information that can help you get a jump-start on your morning.

“You can learn what the weather is, what the traffic is on these bad boys,” Brooks says. “You can basically plan your day with these mirrors while brushing your teeth.”

5. A germ-fighting mudroom

After the coronavirus pandemic, homeowners will be happy to leave germs in the mudroom.

After a year of COVID-19, cleanliness is more important than ever. That’s why this mudroom is such a brilliant feature.

“What’s really cool about this room is that it’s acting as the first line of defense,” Brooks says. “You have a germ scanner as soon as you walk in, touchless faucet, touchless door, so you can really keep the germs outside.”

6. Outdoor screens to reduce bugs and heat

While the interior looks amazing, Brooks and Pennington know that whoever wins this house will want to spend a lot of time outside. So they install mechanical screens, which are perfect for keeping those Florida bugs away; plus, they install a second screen to reduce solar glare and heat.
